Preventative Health Screening

Family medicine is founded on the principle of prevention. Preventative health visits and screening are based on a patient's age, gender and medical history.

What preventative screening should I know about*?

  • Healthy women should begin cervical cancer screening at age 21 years with a pap test  every 3 years

  • Healthy women should begin breast cancer screening at age 50

  • Healthy men and women should begin colon cancer screening at age 50

  • Healthy men and women should consider osteoporosis screening at age 65

  • Currently, neither PSA testing or a DRE are recommended for routine prostate cancer screening in men

*Please note, depending on your current medical history and family history screening may begin earlier or more frequently.
